This course aims to give participants a broad understanding of what goes into the business planning for an Independent Power Production Plant ('IPP'). It gives an overview of the regional energy sector, studies and documentation required, financing options and market structures

Course outcome

At the end of this training programme, course participants shall be able to:

  • Give an overview of the energy sector in the region;
  • Prepare an IPP Project;
  • Give an overview of the Off-Grid Sector;
  • Give an overview of Generation, Transmission, and the role of a System Operator in a Power System;
  • Effectively negotiate for a Power Purchase Agreement;
  • Understand the process for Mobilising finance from various sources available;
  • Explain the role of Power Pools
