PEPZ has joined forces with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), the Musangu Foundation and Exigent Events to launch Impact Capital Africa (ICA) Zambia.
ICA is designed to help overcome financial barriers that hold back ambitious, growing businesses. The concept is simple: ICA brings Zambian companies looking to raise equity or debt financing together with impact investors interested in Zambia.
A shortage of “bankable” deals is a much greater obstacle to deal-making than lack of investment finance. So PEPZ is working through financial advisory firms Open Capital Advisors, Kukula Capital, PWC and GroFin with Zambian SMEs to make sure that they are well-prepared to meet potential investors.
This preparation phase involves considerable upfront effort and expense for companies looking for an investor, with no guarantee of success. PEPZ is offsetting some of the associated risk by helping suitable SMEs to meet the fixed costs of the preparation process.
On 2-3 October 2018, the ICA Zambia conference will bring international and regional impact investors to Lusaka, providing a chance for face-to-face meetings with Zambian businesses, and ultimately leading to signed deals. It is anticipated that this year's event will lay the foundations for future years by showcasing Zambia’s impact investment potential, over time creating a buoyant marketplace for not just Zambian businesses but for the region.
