If you are a woman, then you know that one day in celebration of women is not enough! However, we will graciously take what we can get.

If you are a woman, then you know that one day in celebration of women is not enough! However, we will graciously take what we can get.

Every year on the 8th of March the world comes together to commemorate the economic, political and social achievements of women. This year’s international women’s day was a colorful celebration in Zambia as scores of women took to the streets in impressive attire to march for the occasion. The theme was “Equal access to the education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women.”

Women have come a long way from centuries back when the kitchen was our headquarters and the only time our opinion counted was on deciding which detergent paste did the best washing. In the true spirit of this important day, I decided to share some quotes from inspirational women who have risen above every obstacle in their paths and become great women who we can all look up to. Enjoy!

“Women in particular, need to keep an eye on their physical and mental health, because if we are busy scurrying to and from appointments and errands we don’t have a lot of time to take care of ourselves. We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own to do list.” Michelle Obama, First African American First Lady.

“In Politics, if you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.” Margaret Thatcher, British Politician.

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” Helen Keller, first blind and deaf person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Author, political activist and lecturer.

“While being called beautiful is extremely flattering, I would much rather be noticed for my work as an actress.” Halle Berry, American screen actress and first black woman to ever win an Oscar.

“How important it is for us to recognise and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” Maya Angelou, American Poet
