I had an amusing thought yesterday. I had just logged onto one of my favourite social sites when to my horror a notification popped up saying it was my friend’s birthday. I had completely forgotten but thankfully it was not too late to make amends and I quickly typed her a quick email, attached a pretty looking e-birthday card and sent it, letting out a sigh of relief knowing I would not have to make any embarrassing apologies for forgetting. I had to smile when I considered how differently this situation could have turned out had it occurred 20 years ago. I imagined flipping through my worn out diary and realising it was my friend’s birthday. I would probably have gone into a panic and made a mad dash for the nearest store. After picking out an appropriate card I would have made another sprint to the post office, hurriedly licked on a stamp and posted it, praying it would get to her in a day or two. I would then have gone into hiding and hoped not to bump into her until she had got the card.

This thought made me realize how much easier life has become with the internet. With just a few clicks so much is made possible. We can carry out research from the comfort of our homes without having to balance a huge stack of books from the library. We can now pay bills online without sorting through the mail. We can chat to friends anywhere instantly as soon as they come online without having to save up for an overseas phone call. The list is endless.

Most importantly though, it has changed the business world completely. No longer do you have to go door to door telling people about the new company you just opened up. And you don’t have to break into a sweat when you see the prices charged for advertising through newspapers, television and billboards. With the internet you can now very affordably announce your business to the world through websites, blogs, social networking and so much more.

And I’m proud to say that’s what we are all about here at the best of Zambia — helping enterprises let people know where to find them and what services they provide. As an online web directory advertising businesses to local and international audiences, we also provide our clients with additional promotion through our blogs, twitter and e-newsletters so that it’s hard not to miss them!

But that’s not the most exciting part! Later this month the best of Zambia will be launching an upgraded website. The changes to the website are geared to making our clients’ information even easier to find so that they get more traffic and more business! The new website introduces some amazing changes within a more contemporary design, ensuring information is just 3 clicks away and that Google loves us! In short the new site is simpler, more aesthetically pleasing and easier to use.

With the internet evolving into an important and even critical aspect of business, we make an effort to keep as up to date as possible. So there’s lots of exciting stuff going on at the best of Zambia! To find out more about us and the new website, get in touch.
