Cooperative societies in Zambia are organisation that belong to the people who use their services, and their control rests equally with all their members. Gains from cooperative societies are distributed among the members in proportion to the use they make of their services or the interest they show in their society. Cooperative Societies are required to register with the Zambian Government's Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
Societies Ordinance; to provide that co-operative societies registered under
the Act repealed by this Act shall continue in existence and in operation as if
registered under this Act; to encourage co-operative development by the
provision of services to assist the organisation and operation of various kinds
of co-operative societies to meet the economic and social needs of their
members on a self-help basis; and to provide for all matters incidental to the
foregoing.
