those intending to offer their skills to the learners at a basic level of education where foundation concepts
of learning and abilities are taught. This is a critical level and the candidates gain competencies to function
in both the private and public environment. It is a level where children cultivate life-long skills, hence the
students are expected to influence positive change within classrooms and communities. The programme
targets the individual who is passionate about children and education, who is assured of a fulfilling career
in the exciting world of primary education.
The Primary Degree is relevant to our country as it rests on the very basic fundamentals of education that
any citizen should acquire before progressing to any education level. The very basic skills attained at
primary level form a bedrock of knowledge and values that are transferable and individuals continually
build on them to succeed in later educational levels. The program hence, equips student teachers with
instructing/facilitating skills in various subjects to the benefit of the learners. The target group include pre-
service and in-serve teachers with certificates and/or diplomas requiring the augmentation of their
