Provides communities with solutions to dealing with Human Wildlife Conflict

CLZ is an organization that is committed to supporting communities that surround GMAs (Game Management Areas) in partnership with the local CRBs (Community Resource Boards). One of the ways that CLZ assists these communities is by providing solutions to Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC). This involves collecting information on HWC incidences and providing a communication link between local communities and wildlife authorities. By doing so, CLZ helps to reduce the negative impacts of HWC, promoting coexistence between people and wildlife.

CLZ also engages in alternative income projects and Conservation Agreements. These programs help the community benefit further both directly and indirectly from the environment. For example, alternative income projects may involve sustainable agriculture or ecotourism, while Conservation Agreements incentivize landowners to conserve natural resources.

It's worth noting that CLZ is committed to supporting the local communities in more than just a financial sense. The organization currently employs 88 people in total, a majority of whom are hired from the local communities. By providing employment opportunities, CLZ aims to empower individuals and strengthen the community as a whole. Overall, CLZ is making a positive impact on both people and wildlife in the surrounding GMAs.

Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) is a non-profit organisation committed to the protection of wildlife and the sustainable use of natural resources in the Lower Zambezi in Zambia. Established in 1994, CLZ is centred around three main pillars of support: Wildlife Protection, Environmental Education, and Community Empowerment—actively working towards a vision of a valued, protected and thriving Lower Zambezi landscape. The organization works in collaboration with Zambia’s local wildlife authority, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), to ensure the sustainability of wildlife in the Lower Zambezi Valley and their ecosystems.
